Brett was raised around cattle ranching and horses, but at the age of 18 everything changed. Brett saw his first cutting horse at the NCHA Futurity and knew that’s what he wanted to do with his life. So the journey began.

Brett first apprenticed for NCHA Hall of Famer and past president, Punk Carter of Celina Texas for 2 years; then apprenticed for NCHA Hall of Famer, Pat Earnheart of Hernando, Mississippi for 3 years. In 1986 Brett was given an excellent opportunity as the head trainer for Oak Valley Ranch, owned by Burt and Eleanor Dedmon in Athens, Texas. Brett trained and showed for 8 years earning over $750,000 and numerous titles for the Dedmons.

In 1997 Brett and his wife Lisa made the decision to purchase a cutting horse facility in the East Texas area of Texarkana, where he is currently training and showing horses. Brett was inducted in the NCHA Rider Hall of Fame in 2006. He is an Area Director, a AAAA NCHA Judge, and was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the National Cutting Horse Association at the NCHA Convention held in Nashville, Tennessee.
