In order to thrive on set, these horses truly had to be just as amazing in real life as they were on the big screens. They carried iconic western stars on cattle drives, cutting cows from the herd for branding, chasing bad guys through mountain passes and across barren plains, or simply to town for supplies. Even a movie and TV cowboy could not survive without a good, broke horse. In fact, actors and stunt riders’ lives depend on their horses being reliable, even tempered, and highly-trained. These Hollywood Hoofbeats are made timeless by their unwavering dedication, and recognizable presence on and off screen.

Affectionately nicknamed “Sully” (from Monsters Ink) by his horse handlers on set, this long maned, short faced buckskin gelding is the horse that has loped right out of the set of your favorite western series, and into your dreams! Sully is a 2014 15.3 hand Registered American Quarter Horse Gelding that is the epitome of the “been there done that” style- with a captivating resume to boot! This hardy, ranch built gelding has been ridden by some of the most notable cowboys actors of our day. Featured in Yellowstone, Sully was ridden by recognizable characters like Cole Hauser’s legendary Rip, and even Josh Lucas as Young John Dutton in a various flashbacks in Season 5. Notable for his role in Sweet Home Alabama, Josh Lucas had told the horse handlers that if he didn’t live in Los Angeles, that Sully would be coming home with him! But this geldings movie career didn’t stop there! Sully was also ridden by Tim McGraw through the Yellowstone origin story series 1883! Being on set encompasses many challenges- more than what would meet the eye! Whether you are out on the trail, or encounter random gunfire- this guy is built for the job! If you want to ride through the pasture, town, or in the mountains, Sully will take care of you. He is smooth to ride at every gate, and also has a slow pleasure-like trot. He is one hand broke, and will yield his shoulders, hips, side pass, work a gate, stop, and backup with ease. This is the same horse everyday, and will be the same horse in and out of the arena. He is very careful footed, and is seasoned to rough country, steep inclines, and all sorts of obstacles. 

𝙎𝙪𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙤. He will give you as much as you ask for then come back when you’re ready to settle down and drive the herd home.
